Mostly for tecnical reasons, this forum is likely going to be moved to the address titanicforum.com very soon. The forum will remain as it is but the current address will not work. The current forum homepage address (titanicpages.com/forum) will probably be changed to a page linking to the new forum ...

OTD in 1912: t the US Inquiry, George Rowe described how when Titanic struck the iceberg, he "felt a slight jar" and saw a "mass of ice." After later seeing a lifeboat in the water, he phoned the bridge, to check they knew, and was asked to fetch the distress rocket detonators.

On this day 112 years ago: Shortly before Titanic's sister ship Olympic was about to leave Southampton for the first time since the Titanic disaster, the majority of her boiler room crew went on strike and deserted, unhappy with the type of new extra lifeboats put on the ship.

On this day 112 years ago, three witnesses gave evidence at the US Titanic Inquiry: Frederick Fleet, one of the lookouts who first spotted the iceberg, Herbert Pitman, Titanic's 3rd officer, and Arthur Peuchen, who climbed down a rope into boat 6 due to a lack of crew to row.

On this day 112 years ago: Titanic's collapsible lifeboat B was found by the Mackay-Bennett. The boat had floated off Titanic upside down as she sank, and saved a number of people from the water, including Titanic's 2nd Officer. Those aboard had been rescued by boats 4 and 12.

On this day in 1912: The Mackay-Bennett properly began to retrieve Titanic's victims from the sea, including the remains of a child, buried as and known for many years as Titanic's "unknown child." In 2007 he was identified as Sidney Leslie Goodwin.

On this day in 1912, Titanic was supposed to have started her return maiden voyage from New York to Southampton. Instead, on the day, the majority of Titanic's surviving crew departed New York for home aboard SS Lapland. Some had to stay behind for the US Inquiry into the sinking.
